Privacy and cookies

Your book is yours

The app has no account, no tracking and no ads, and nothing you write ever leaves your computer. This website counts visits without cookies. Here is all of it, in plain words.

The short version

  • This website sets no cookies, so there’s no cookie banner to click through.
  • It counts visits with Vercel Web Analytics, which doesn’t identify you or follow you to other sites.
  • The Quillier app collects nothing. Your books, notes and dictation stay on your computer.
  • Nothing is sold, shared with advertisers, or used to build a profile of you.

Cookies

quillier.com doesn’t set cookies, and doesn’t store anything else in your browser either: no local storage, no tracking pixels, no fingerprinting. There are no ads, no social media buttons and no embedded videos that could set cookies of their own. The fonts come from this site, not from a font service.

Because nothing is stored on your device, there’s nothing to accept or turn off.

Counting visits

To learn which pages are read and where visitors come from, the site uses Vercel Web Analytics. For each page you open it records:

  • the page, and the site that linked you here, if any
  • your browser, operating system and kind of device
  • your country, worked out from your IP address

Your IP address isn’t stored. Vercel tells one visit from another with a hash of the request that is thrown away after 24 hours, so a visitor can’t be recognized from one day to the next, or across other websites. What we see is totals: how many people read a page, not who they were.

Google Search

We use Google Search Console to see how quillier.com shows up in Google: which searches it appears for and how often people click through. That information comes from Google’s own search results, as totals. Search Console adds no code and no cookies to this site. What Google collects when you search is covered by Google’s privacy policy.

Hosting and downloads

The site is hosted by Vercel. Like any web host, it sees the address your request comes from in order to send you the page and keep the site safe from abuse.

Each page asks GitHub for the number of the newest version (and the changelog for its notes), straight from your browser, and the app itself downloads from GitHub. GitHub sees those requests the way any website would; its privacy statement covers them.

The app

Quillier has no account, no analytics and no crash reporting. Your books are files on your computer, and the app never uploads them. It goes online only to:

  • check for updates on GitHub, a little after it opens and twice a day. You can turn this off in Settings and check by hand instead.
  • download a model once from Hugging Face, if you choose to use dictation or the optional smart features. The model then runs on your computer, so what you say and write stays there.

The app is open source, so anyone can read the code and check.

Your rights

We don’t hold any information that identifies you, so in most cases there’s nothing to look up or delete. Wherever you live, you can still ask us what we have and have it removed, and we won’t treat you any differently for asking.

Questions and changes

Ask anything about privacy by opening an issue on GitHub. If this page changes, the new version will be here with a new date, and the old ones stay in the site’s history.
